This was the hardest part of creating a brand for my smartwatch, as once you have the name everything is built around this.
I quickly done a mind map exploring different words related to the features of the app. This wasn’t the best approach as I want a name that is unrelated to these.
I wrote down values trying to think of how it would make the target audience feel (parents). This was definitely a better approach. I looked up synonyms of calm (sleep), and came across serenity/tranquil. I still didn’t think these words were very fitting.
I chose the name “serene,” because I like how it’s short and a powerful word related to sleep which is evolved around my app.
I chose the font Futura because of its friendly and its geometric look to it. As well, it’s legibility considering the text is going to be viewed on a small screen.
I used different Futura font weights: bold for CTA buttons and titles, medium for regular text.
Before the critique, this was my logo and wordmark. I decided against the water droplet, as my lecturer had suggested how he initially thought my app was to do with water.
Above is my final logo and wordmark design, I think the simple circular shape is more simplistic and recognisable.
