To start this project, I began to research into what exactly is a smart home, components, how it works, the advantages, disadvantages, pros and cons.

This term is quite new to me, as I was familiar with smart home devices such as Alexa, but I didn’t know you could have your entire home controlled by using appliances.


Key Findings:

I think the reliance on internet connection could be difficult for homes in areas where their Wi-fi is slow or bad coverage. Also, having to pay for added security would add extra costs for home owners.


How do Smart Homes work?

The system works on a phone or other connected device, letting users set schedules and control their smart home.

Smart appliances learn daily routines to save energy and lower costs. Smart lighting also helps reduce electricity use.

Some systems can sense movement when no one is home, sending alerts or calling for help if needed.

Devices like smart doorbells, security cameras, and appliances connect through the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing them to work together and share information.

Security and efficiency are the main reasons for the increase in smart home technology use.

The system where you can set schedules such as turning the lights on before you come back from work is very convenient. Although, the system that can sense movement how would it work if you had pets in the house.
