Since, I’ve got my banking name now the next step is to choose a font the will represent the value and the brand effectively. I started by searching on Adobe Fonts and picked around 10 fonts to select from, the three I feel are the strongest ones for my banking brand.
It may not be ideal for branding purposes due to its lack of uniqueness or distinctiveness. The font's traditional features, like a longer bowl, bigger aperture, and standard terminals, add to its readability and clarity but don't necessarily make it stand out or add personality to the brand. A more unique or stylised font might be preferred to better reflect the brand's identity and create a memorable visual impact.
The text acknowledges the font's strengths in design and creativity, particularly highlighting its eye-catching nature and the inclusion of special additions such as thicker strokes, short ascenders, and early-ending bowls. However, it also raises concerns about readability, noting that the spacing appears inconsistent, and the counter on the “e” is very small. This inconsistency could potentially negatively effect legibility, making it difficult for readers to engage with the text. Therefore, while the font may do well in grabbing attention and making a visual statement, it may require adjustments to ensure that readability isn’t compromised.
I have a strong preference for this particular font, noting its resemblance to a turtle and its ability to convey strength and sturdiness through the thicker stroke. The font's design elements, such as less letter spacing, elongated and non-curving bowls, thinner aperture, and low line height, contribute to its unique aesthetic and evoke the imagery of a turtle effectively. Overall, the font's design aligns well with the desired connotations and imagery, making it a standout choice among the options presented.
From speaking with my lecturer and not being fully satisfied with the fonts I found, he suggested to look on Adobe Fonts, to search for a more rounded font.
This font is slightly rounded in certain areas, but I’m not particular fond of the shape the “u” or “r” how the bottom of the “u” is cut off and the top of the “r” too. The x-height of the letters especially the “t’s” and “l” is very short and wouldn’t work with my brand, as I want to extend these letters in particular to create the shape for my wordmark that reflects my name.
This font is slightly more rounded on most letters but not fully. It’s more curved at the bottom to an extent instead of curved. The bold weight doesn’t really stand out it’s not very striking, and I need a font that catches your eye when you initially see it at first. The x-height is more in line with each other apart from the “l” is out of place extended above the other letters. I want to be able to change the kerning so there’s less space between each letter.
