I was fascinated to learn about the ‘Bauhaus’, as I was unaware of what this actually was. I was intrigued how it was forced to close down due to the the pressure of the Nazis.
I was interested in the first photo ever taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, by a technique known as heliography. I had no idea what this was before the lecture. The process involves ‘asphalt bitumen’ is spread on glass or metal. It hardens when exposed to light. Then, the plate is cleaned with lavender oil. It’s amazing how they created photos in the early 1830’s. Overall, I really enjoyed this lecture and I’m excited to learn more about Design History.
