Reflection:

Bull’s Eye:

After we looked at landing pages, our lecturer got up to write down what content goes into one in order of importance Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.

I enjoyed this process because I was already familiar with seeing landing pages before but never really appreciated how much thought and effort goes into making one. I’ve learned about different aspects like a Hero image and call to action buttons, I’d seen these before but didn’t know what they were.

Domain Name:

Our lecturer spoke to us about the importance of having a domain name. It helps to create an online image of yourself, by building your personal brand that displays your skills. Also, it makes you differentiate from competitors in the industry. Your domain name is the crucial step to make before creating a portfolio and connecting with potential employers in the future.

I found this really interesting because I didn’t really pay much attention to this before. It makes sense though as this is what people see before clicking on the link, so it needs to be recognisable.

This is the website that was recommended in the lecture, he said the best way to make sure your domain name isn’t already used before registering is to come up with 6 names and see what ones are available.

Web Hosting:

I had never heard of this before, but it was intriguing to learn the steps how to publish a website on the internet. Our lecturer suggested to look DreamHost. This will be convenient when creating my portfolio next year.
