Summary:

Roles:

It was interesting to hear that all of these roles are the same, just different names. My placement role is UX/UI designer, I’m excited that I’ll get experience in both areas: research and design, so I get to see which one I prefer.

Group Task:

We were asked to pick a User Experience job listing each on LinkedIn, and using sticky notes write down the requirements, qualifications and skills needed for the company.

After, we had to use affinity mapping to group similar skills together.

I found this exercise helping knowing what types of skills and requirements are expected in a company. I am nervous for starting placement, because I’m not sure what level of experience they expect from me.

How Designers Work With Developers:

How Designers Work With Developers

Since I’m preparing for my placement, this article reminded me how important it is to talk clearly and work closely with developers. I’ve learned that teamwork isn’t just about giving them my designs: it’s about working together, sharing ideas early, and understanding their side too. I’m looking forward to using new tools and being part of a team’s workflow. I want to go into this experience with a positive attitude and focus on working together to make great products.

Types of Software Companies:

  1. Product-based- focus on creating, owning, and selling their own software products, such as applications, software suites, or platforms.
  2. Consultancy-based- these companies offer software development services or consulting services, where they design and build software for other businesses, but don't own the final product.
