We had the opportunity to discuss our project idea with our lecturer, and I’m really glad we did, as I had been feeling uncertain about which direction to take. At first, I was leaning toward designing a smart home system aimed at simplifying daily routines for families. However, as I delved deeper into research, I realised that this concept was too broad and general to create a truly unique or impactful project.
During my research, I discovered a trend: homeschooling is becoming an increasingly popular choice for families, and it’s expected to grow even more in the future. What stood out to me was the lack of online tools and resources designed to help parents teach their children at home. While there are some platforms available, they often don't provide the depth or flexibility that parents need to effectively manage and personalise their children's learning experiences.
This gap in the market gave me the inspiration to refine my project idea, focusing on creating a platform or tool that could support homeschooling families more effectively.
My lecturer was really supportive of this idea and agreed that it could be an interesting and innovative topic to explore for the project. He suggested that I could take it a step further by incorporating technologies like holograms or VR to create a truly immersive and interactive learning experience for children.
By using holograms, I could develop 3D models and visualisations that would make complex concepts more engaging and easier for children to understand. For example, children could interact with science experiment or history event in a way that feels more like an adventure than a lesson.
Similarly, incorporating VR could allow students to "step into" different environments, such as exploring ancient civilisations or even traveling through the human body to learn about biology. These technologies have the potential to transform how homeschooling is experienced, offering a dynamic and hands-on approach to learning that traditional methods can’t provide.
This feedback really made me excited, as it opened up lots of possibilities for creating an impactful solution for homeschooling families. I’m now thinking about how I can combine these technologies in a way that enhances the educational experience while remaining practical and accessible for parents.
