Firstly, I quickly sketched out some wordmarks before taking them into Illustrator. When I began drawing these, I couldn’t think what I wanted my wordmark to look like. Although, once I started drawing simple shapes and adjusting my type to incorporate into it. This allowed me to visualise what I wanted my final one to look like.
The next step in creating my banking brand is establishing a wordmark. I started my typing my bank name into Illustrator and then started to add in different shapes and curves to resemble a turtle shell that represent security and protection.
Above, are some of the sample wordmarks I explored I was leaning more toward the style of a curved line fully or partially joining certain letters. Although, I didn’t think it done the typography any justice since I was using the regular weight.
I decided to change the weight to bold to emphasise the word and show how my values reflect security and protection by having a strong feel to them. I chose a filled semi-circle over a curved line, as it reinforces and matches my overall brand image. I slightly extended the terminal of the “t’s” to look like the legs of a turtle and narrowed the “e” slightly to shape it like a turtle’s head.
